I found this forum a week or two ago, and I regularly searched the forum as an anonymous user. However, a few days ago it seems that the forums are closed for anonymous users, with no forums visible. I hope this is not a concious move and that it will be fixed soon, since it is a great forum that people not need logged-in access to even read.

So forum administrators - I pledge you to open the forums for anonymous users to read it.

Also, I would like to propose a separate forum here for mythburn, since this is the primary forum for that program on the internet. Am I correct? If yes, a mythburn forum would be great.

I'd agree with that... the same happened to me... I predict that you'll get a lot more posts from this user ID!

Anonymous reading is necessary for google to find the posts. If google can't find the posts, few new users will find the forums. This means that fewer people will get here, which means the downfall of the forums.
Please open it up ;)

I fully agree. I suspect (hope) this is just a mistake that will be cleared up. The maintainers are pretty good at monitoring the forums and will see this.

I just found it entertaining how many lurkers are coming out of the woodwork...

This might be a good place to warn the new members...

READ THIS NOW:

I hate to see new members treated to an unwelcome response because they were too lazy to read the guidelines.

Cheers,

Allen

 Great link alien. The reason I made registration mandatory to view the forum is because MySQL was getting clobbered. Despite my efforts to try and tweak it. So, until the new server is up and running, the forum will required a registration.

Well it definately made a difference Cecil.

I'm glad you were able to alleviate the problem with the server response time (including the MySQL connection errors)!

Hi,

Maybe a little note on the home page just for a general enlightenment? Simply closing the door may cause some new people to simply turn away not understanding there are technical reasons. It would be a shame to discourage potential new people from such a fine package as KnoppMyth.

Thanks
Mike

Thanks for the explanation. I had noticed a slowdown and I have a timezone advantage. The perils of success...

I second the idea of a notice on the first (login) page. My first thought when I hit a manditory registration is that there is a commercial purpose somewhere behind it. An email harvester at the minimum. Neither of which are true here.

Cheers,

Allen

cecil,
thanks for the explanation. The reason for closing the forums down make sense indeed. It seems like these forums have grown quite a lot and become quite loaded the last time, and I welcome the server upgrade.
Do you have an ETA on when the new hardware will be installed?
Cheers,
etnoy
