I have DISH NETWORK, do I need the Receiver in the loop to get MythTV working? I ask because there is a ID card in the reciever.

If so, is it
A) -->coax line-->Receiver-->tuner in-->RCA out-->TV
or
B) -->coax line-->tuner in-->RCA out-->Reveiver-->TV

I have DIsh Network also. You will go from the Dish Network box to the mythbox/PVR card. Then the mythtvbox will go to the input to your TV. I use Svideo from myth video card to the TV.
You will also want to get an IRBlaster so you can change channels. I use the actisys 200L. It was pretty easy to setup (as long as you first RTFM).
Because mythtv isn't great for channel surfing, but awesome for recording, I have a splitter on the cable that comes out of the dish network box. One split goes to the mythtv/PVR card and the other to the coax input on the TV. If I want to watch TV thru myth, or view myth, I will use the S-Video input option on the TV, but for channel surfing or regular watching I just use the normal setting on my TV's menu.

And if you're not handy with solder, the blasters sold by http://www.irblaster.info/ are quite nice and reasonably priced too.

My SO gave me one for Christmas. I think he was tired of the Borg-chic circuit board IR blaster that I made and never got around to enclosing in a project box.
It was literally a plug in replacement for the homemade one. No config changes or anything.
