I am fairly new to the mythtv project and do not have a whole lot of Linux experience.
I have my Knoppmyth backend running on a PATA setup and everything works well. I recently found a 300 gb SATA drive that I am now trying to add to my setup. In order to get it to run I use a Silicon Image Sil-3112 PCI card.

The 300g hd is a Maxtor hd so I did not expect to see any problems in adding the hard drive.

Could someone please point me in the right direction on how I would go about adding the new hd? How to I know if the Debian even recognizes the hd?

Any thoughts/ links etc would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great day!!

Install the hardware and reboot. It should see it (check to make sure that your BIOS sees it first). Look at the log files in /var/log to see if it was detected. Then you can do an LVM setup. Note that you'll need to tweak the init script to load the appropriate SATA module before the lvm module.

Does your BIOS see it? That was one of the first questions we asked and you never answered. If the BIOS doesn't see it all bets are off.

I have the 200GB drive hooked up, but i am a total linuz noob and have no clue whatsoever how to make my mythtv box also be able to use the other HD for additional storage. Please help anyone. Once again, i am very very very very inexpeianceed so any steps you can provide would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thanks again
