I'm sure this is on the board somewhere, but I have been working on this for 5 hours and I don't have the energy to look any more. I have the problem with the Geforce 6200 and the screen being barely visible. I found the problem here, downloaded the drives, even remembered enough Linux from my time playing with it almost 10 years ago to mount the CDROM drive and get the drive, but I can't install the driver with X running. To add to the problems, I can't read many of the screens to figure out to exit completely out of the graphical interface. I did find the <CTRL><ALT><F1> thing, but that seems to still be a command box overtop of the graphical interface. Any tips here? Thanks.

Alt-X brings up an xterm which is a "command box overtop of the graphical interface", but ctrl-alt-f1 should switch to console mode where you should get a text only screen (as should ctrl-alt-f[23456]). Alt-f7 to switch back to x-windows.

Yeah, I can barely see the screen, but it looks like a box over a graphical interface. In that screen I can't read anything that comes up from the attempted driver install, but I get two blue (assuming blue) boxes with nothing in them but OK (assuming OK) buttons, just like when it gave me the warning that it couldn't install while the driver was in use.
I can see a border around the command box and I can see words along the bottom. Don't remember what they say right now, but the words KNOPPIX or MYTH are in there in large lettering for sure.
Maybe it's just that I can't see the screen well enough to answer properly or maybe I'm just an idiot (it's happened before), but I can't get the driver installed. Now that I think of it, I didn't follow the installation instructions explicitly. I renamed the file because I can't read the screen, so I wanted something short. I also am running it directly as an executable instead of running it through sh. As I recall from my old Linux days that shouldn't matter because I'm already in a shell when I run it, but I was never a Linux guru or anything and it has been a while.
I will try again tonight, run it through sh directly from the CDROM instead of copying it to / and see what happens. Oh, I also ran it after runnins su to make sure I was logged in as root.
At least I know I am sort of on the right track and I appreciate the info you've given me so far. Thanks. If I fix it, I'll let you know.

When you bring up the console with CTRL+ALT+F1 try to force X to quit. If you are using KnoppMyth it would be Code: /etc/init.d/gdm stop and make sure you do this as root. This will stop X and you should be able to proceed to install your driver.
The only problem I envisage is if you are correct in thinking that when you do the CTRL+ALT+F1 it only brings up a Terminal window, I don't how this command will react.

Girkers, you're a genius. That fixed the problem. Still had a little trouble muddling through the prompts for the install, but when it seemed to go to quickly I just started again and pushed an arrow key bofore hitting enter. Works great now. Thanks, man.
