Hi,

I did a automatic install on a p3 800 with pata drives. it didn't boot.

then i tried a manual install and it didn't boot.

so then i did a manual again, and tried to run lilo -v at the comand line, and it told me it could nto find /etc/lilo.conf

sure enough i checked teh file system and it's not there... suggestions ?

worth noting : i know my drives are all setup properly as i've had ubuntu and freebsd installed on this same hardware many times.

second question , why does it use lilo and not grub ? i recognise this may be a policially charged question.

Did you mount and chroot to the drive before checking /etc/fstab? Why GRUB over LILO?
