Can someone help, I wanted to complete the install on an lcd monitor first before moving to a tv and following the instructions for manual install I get stuck a this point:
"Once back to the main menu, select 2. Start installation. Verify the information and sit back. Once complete, reboot the system. After the system reboots it will start X and KnoppMyth will open an Xterm and ask for the root password. See configuration.
The problem is that upon reboot I remove the install disk as per instructions on screen, then after the reboot nothing happens, I get a blinking cursor and that is it.
I installed on a SATA drive and did exactly this "If you have an SATA drive, change this to /KNOPPIX/knoppmyth-sata"

System:
Case: Origen ae X11e
250G Seagate SATA
WD 500G SATA
AMD AM2 X2 4800 (65nm)
PNY NVIDIA 7900 GS
Corsair XMS2 1G
Samsung DVD RW
ASUS M2N2 SLI deluxe
PVR500

See the troubleshooting pages on the wiki. The most likely problem is that your lilo setup needs to be tweeked and the installer rerun.
http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=WillNotBootAfterInstall
http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=BlackScreenAfterInstall

Also search for posted that mention "mount" and "lilo".

I have tried everything posted still it is not working. I have two SATA drives maybe I should disconnect the second one. I am getting really annoyed with it all. Can someone point me to a foolproof way to fix this?!?

I tried again and after fixing Lilo it finally rebooted. Now when Lilo comes up I press enter and it starts. first thing :
"Missing or invalid storage location (resume2 = parameter). Please correct or rerun lilo (or equivalent)...
.............
Waiting for /dev to be fully populated usb 1-6 device descriptor read/64 error - 110
usb 1-6 device descriptor read/64 error - 110
usb 1-6 device descriptor read/64 error - 110
.........
Then it continues and then black screen with non-blinking cursor and freezes. The last thing that I see before it freezes (it goes really fast) "starting backend" then I think "installing the nvidia drivers"

after 8 reboots it finally shows the hostname that I selected and ask for login.

What do I do now?

formatted my sda3 drive as xfs so when I changed the info in fstab this is what I added:
/dev/sda3 /mnt/sda3 xfs noauto,users,exec 0 0
#/dev/sda3 /myth xfs auto,users,exec 0 0

Sounds like you need to configure your X server. Try logging in as root (using the admin password you entered during the install) and running this command:
Code:
install-nvidia-debian.sh 1.0-8776 -force

BTW - See the "If you are using an Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT with release R5E50" section here: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=BlackScreenAfterInstall since you've already got a login prompt you don't need to boot from the CD or do any mounting/chrooting.

Thanks for your help. I will try that when I get home. My card is a 7900GS can I use the latest version or should I use version 1.0-8776 ?

Thanks

I'd try 8776 first, since it'll be much easier. For a newer version the procedure is much more complicated.

Hi,

I am a bit curious why the manual install? I am also assuming an R5E50 install since this is the 21 century.. If I recall correctly the auto install R5E50 handled sata quite nicely, even R5C7 handles sata nicely.

Typically some of the bleeding edge hardware may exhibit issues but to get things at least basiclly working you could fall back to using the vesa driver. This would allow you to go through all the setups and in general ensure things are functional.

Once those steps are completed, then it would allow you to concentrate on making the super video card play nice.

The doing a manual install document was originally intended to assist folks when sata first came into play however since that era, Cecil and the great team working quietly behind the scenes with him added sata support which work quite well.

Unless you are planning to marry the two drives into an LVM, start off with the small drive, do an auto install and make it work first. I have a 300gig drive in my KM machine that seems to always have about a hundred gig free and even that is more then I have time view :)

Anytime I have an issue with video at install time, I switch to vesa get the system all setup and then go back and "fine tune" that area.

Just my 2 pennies worth.
Mike

Thanks Mike. I followed tjc's advice and used the "GefOrce 7300..." instructions and it worked.
Thanks tjc
Now on to getting my PVR500 to work. "No probe info..."

rrrgh!!!

I can't find "kernel-source-2.6.18-chw-3.tar.bz2" in the /usr/src/ directory.

I recompiled IVTV; now how do I get back to the settings and make sure that my tuner is set up properly

It turned out that my tuner card was not properly sitting on the PCI "board". However, I still can't get any images from it. I have followed the instructions for blackscreen after install to no avail. I don't know what it is that I'm doing wrong at this point. below are the last few lines of my xsessions-errors log if someone thinks that they can help:
