The problem is that I am not sure wat problem I have. No error's but I can't cat a proper video stream.

The card can tune and scan. But no picture.
I have try:

peterr-alfa2 ~ # czap "RTL 5"
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'
reading channels from file '/root/.czap/channels.conf'
4 RTL 5:340000000:INVERSION_AUTO:6875000:FEC_NONE:QAM_64:1910:1911:2009
4 RTL 5: f 340000000, s 6875000, i 2, fec 0, qam 3, v 0x776, a 0x777 status 00 | signal 0000 | snr 0000 | ber 6e65672d | unc 34312e36 | status 1f
| signal 0000 | snr 3200 | ber 6e65672d | unc 34312e36 | FE_HAS_LOCK
| status
1f | signal 0000 | snr 3200 | ber 6e65672d | unc 34312e36 | FE_HAS_LOCK

And:

peterr-alfa2 ~ # cat /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0 > /data/test.ts The test.ts is 0 bytes and wont play.

And:

Mplayer dvb://"RTL 5"
Mplayer crashed because it can't read the stream.

If I start the czap command this will written in the dmesg (a peace of it):

I using kernel 2.6.14 r5 (gentoo)

Thanks for any help.

What is your provider? Is it DVB-T, DVB-S or DVB-C?

This post has additional information, Willem wrote something about creating a MPEG stream using dvbstream before trying to play the stream with mplayer.
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6140&highlight=dvbc
And he wrote that he has solved the problem for FTA channels.
Maybe this helps a little...

@Fiete: thx for your reply. The problem(s) I have are a little different. But I can't findout why because I don't get any error's :(

Troubleshooting without any error's is very difficult.

Just curious about the DVB-stuff in the Netherlands. I found this link
http://www.ethics-gradient.net/myth/mythdvb.html
Al references to DVB and linux use dvbstream to demultiplex the stream and pipe this stream to mplayer like:
Code:
# dvbstream -o -ps -qam 16 -cr 3_4 600 601 | mplayer -

Perhaps the FTA channels of Casema still require a smartcard and FTA means "not encrypted" in that respect. That seems to be the issue with Essent's TV Home (another Dutch DVB-C provider).
My latest attempts (after they removed all true FTA channels) got me to a point where I could scan for channels, got FE_LOCK (and EPG data), but not a usable picture. The Mythtv log showed errors regarding the smartcard. Other forums suggested that logic in the smartcard will make sure it's running in one of the "approved" decoders. Obviously a PC with DVB-C card is not approved in their eyes. I hate such politics. Reason for me to switch to DVB-S. I already got a DVB-S adapter. I'll be buying a dish soon.

Thanks for al your reply's. I have it working now.
The main problem was a faulty driver. I have compiled the new drivers form the cvs linuxtv, and all is working now. I can also watch the scramble channels from the casema kabel (DVB-C)

I'am using the Twinhan DTV CAB-CI (http://www.twinhan.com/product_cable_2.asp). This card has an CI onboard, so you don't have to buy an aditional CI.

Because of my cable provider (Casema, I think you know them) I need also a CAM to watch FTA channels. The have a few REAL FTA channels (only 9) but to watch al the FTA you need a CAM + Smartcard. I have use the Alphacrypt CAM (www.alphacrypt.de). I need the 3.05 version because of the special irdeto2 code. I am very sure it will work for you also. If you have qeustions please let me know.
