R5B7 "short path" to XviD playback?

Post subject:  R5B7 "short path" to XviD playback?

I've tried using apt-get to install codecs to get some XviD avi files to play with no success. I'll take the fact that I couldn't find any sources that had the packages as a sign that I was on the wrong path.

Have any of you achieved playback of XviD avi files that are otherwise stubborned on a base KnoppMyth install?

Surprised that your xvid files don't play with the vanilla installed MPlayer. Any ideas what is so special about these files ?

I have played XviD files out of the box fine.

How about any of the XviD content off www.revision3.com

It is copy written which is why I asked. So I'm wondering if I can say add it to bronosky.com/pub a few directories deep and invite other to go find it.

It's not there now, and I wouldn't leave it there very long for fear of...

I'm just really wondering why I can play some XviD movies and not these. I've read that a lot of people are having trouble with this one file, but others can get it to play... on Windows.

Thanks for understanding. :) It may simply be a matter of upgrading upgrading xvid. The next release will have the latest xvid.
