I've been fighting with this card for a couple of days. I've searched the forum and tried every combination I could possably find, However all I still recieve when attempting to watch liveTV is static with green. I've found simular issues, but no real resolutions. According to the pamphlet my card should be 37, I've tried 70, 72 etc. Also tried several different tuner settings, all with no results. This is a US based card and I have Comcast cable, I've tested the cable line and I have signal (as when I put the card in my windowz box I can view tv)

Basically I'm trying to see if anyone else has this card here in the US and has figured out what tuner it has on it.

Oh, I've also double, tripple, etc, cheched my mythsetup settings as well, using ntsc us_cable etc.

For right now I'm just looking to get this system, which will probably end up being backend and I'll set up a frontend later, but for now this one needs to do it all (and if I can get the video out of the ATI card working without much hassle, it may remain the only box.) Any assistance is appriciated

Specs:
Athlon 1.6ghz
512 Mb ram
80 GB IDE HDD
Pixelview PlayTV Pro (PV-BT878P+) rev. 10a
ATI video card (I, know, I know, but it's what I have for now)
Ensoniq 5880 sound card.

Now for the tech bits:

Hi,

There is a thread somewhere, maybe we can find it together as I want fire up my old KWorld bttv card also. There needs to be some settings in /etc/mythtv/modules/bttv There are two special numbers, one for the card and one for the tuner.
Goes something like
options tuner = 8 card = 78
Those are my numbers but I think there were a couple of other options needed also.

You mentioned the card but I didn't see anything for the tuner.
options tuner = ? card = 37

Maybe this is a push in the right direction...

I'll keep searching.

I did find a thread by a couple of guys from Australia, but I'm pretty sure they have different tuners.

I guess I'm going to start just filling in the tuner option till I find one that works. Though with this particular hardware setup re-boots are a pain. When I tell the system to re-boot, it shuts down, but then goes into a sor of standby mode rather than re-booting, so I have to hit the re-set button to start it back up. (It's something weird with the motherboard, as this system used to be my boss's and he always had weird issues with it)

Oh, and in my searching I found that the location that we need to edit to put our card parameters in is: /etc/modprobe.conf

Ok, I've got it. :D :D :D

Started doing some other research while I was attempting semi-random tuner settings. Found these two pages which helped me to narrow it down.

This one, is actually quite like the one at the end of the pamphlet:

http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/BTTV/cards.html

This one actually cracked it open for me:

http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/BTTV/modprobe.html

The commands etc at the top of that page don't work, as myth locks the modules somehow, but the tuner information was crucial.

I took the card out and started examining it to try to find markings to help. Ended up finding somewhere (will post later once I shut the system down again) the name "temic" and elsewhere 4032fy5, which was listed on that page.

Anyway, I've now got video, and sound coming from the sound out of the tuner card. Gotta work on getting it out of the sound card instead (though I have some cords around here to manually jump it outside the case if need be)

One issue though, the words are coming out of their mouths before they actually move their lips. Gonna try a couple of more card options keeping in mind the one I have is working.

Oh, btw.. my settings:
Quote:
options bttv card=37 tuner=6

Ok, I screwed up my install (don't ask). Anyway, I upgraded to the latest (r5f1) and got my recordings and backend/frontend all set up.

Now for the bad news, I know what settings to provide for my card (as seen above), I just don't know where I put these settings in the latest version of knoppmyth to make my tuner actually tune. I'm back to getting the static with green mixed in.

Can anyone give me a hint on where I need to put these settings to get the system back.

(I'm hoping to replace the entire system with one that has an HD card in it, but at the moment the budget just doesn't contain that, so for now I need to continue to use this card and record SD tv as long as I can and the standard is still available.)

Have you tried /etc/mythtv/modules/bttv or maybe /etc/mythtv/modules/bttv0? The other place to try is /etc/modules.conf

Yet another possibility is that you need to add it to the bttv file above and add an include in /etc/modprobe.d/KnoppMyth

Thanks for the info. I had tried one or two of those locations, don't know if my syntax was wrong or what.

However this weekend I was talking with a friend, and he had a tuner card he wasn't using that he gave me. KM recognized it and is up and running, mostly...

Anyway, after my upgrade, I can't seem to be able to watch any videos for more than 5 minutes before the system locks up solid.

I'm leaning toward it being related to the backend crash issues that appear to be a known issue with this, and the system just locks up and I can't do anything if I"m in the middle of viewing a vid. (however this is all for another thread if the fix that is posted doesnt fix the lock ups.
