Post subject:  Which motion ugrade needed for MythTV?

I have r5c7 running. I have the out of the box 3.1.19 motion running with a Logitech pro 4000 usb webcam. I would like to add my Toshiba ik-wb01a netcam to the motion pool. However, there seems to be a documented issue with the ik-wb01a netcams so I need to update motion to the current release
3.2.7.

Which version of the deb (Sarge or Sid) should I use with KnoppMyth?

Thanks

Hi,
I have seen reference in the forum to sarge but I am not sure where to look in the system to confirm the posts.

Just be careful what it updates / removes or you may cause harm to your running machine. The install part doesn't seem to break stuff but the other two sure will. I always abort if it shows other than 0 for either.

That's ok I punted and installed 3.2.7 from source instead of deb.

Got it "sort of" working now with the netcam.

Thanks

Hi,

Source is good too :) If you discover any extra tricks please share? I did some work / "play" with motion a few weeks past with the stock version but still is a lot to learn. I did post what I was able to figure out as you are aware.

Have a great day
Mike

Got it going!!

The key was finding the Toshiba API for controlling the camera :

http://www.toshiba.com/taisisd/security/pdf/_manuals/IK-WB01A_11A_advanced_user_guide.pdf

It was also a little less than intuitive that you need a separate <camera>.conf file for each camera PLUS the motion.conf file. The directions only have a one sentence mention on the main motion guide page.

The following link has a meatier explanation :

http://www.lavrsen.dk/twiki/bin/view/Motion/MotionGuide3x1x20

Seems to work quite well. Know for learning about all the options motion makes available....

Thanks
