Post subject:  kmytv error messages disappear

I recently installed KMYTH R5E50 and have a lot of things working. However only a couple of my DVD's will play and unfortunately the error message (for those that don't) erases from the screen before I can read it. What is my problem? I think this happens for any error message.

Your problem is that you are not providing any detail. No one can give you a reasonable estimation of what your problem might be without details.

OK, I am not a linux user, but it looks like a new X window is launched when you click on DVD. This window opens the DVDROM drive to play the DVD. It gets some sort of error (a couple of boxes) which simply flash on the screen as the main window takes over (always full screen with KMYTHTV) and you are back at a main menu. Not sure if the DVD X window is still there, how to access it , or if it was closed.

thanks for the tip, that could be my problem. But how do I get to see these error messages. Have I not installed KMYTHTV correctly?

Sounds like your trying to play an encrypted dvd.

To see the message run the dvd play command (set somewhere in the options screens) in a terminal (alt-x will open one).

Code:
xine -pfhq --auto-scan dvd

To fix this you need to install some extra packages (may not be legal in some places - so your not supposed to say too much on the forum) but a search for dvd playback problems will provide lots of posts about how to fix this.
