Hi everybody.
My system is currently as below, and plan to upgrade soon to R5E50, to get the added benefit of UK Radio on digital terrestrial (freeview).

I am happy with the system as is, but feel it could be "optimized". eg....

AFter a clean reboot, the system memory usage is at 41%....(i do have irexec, NFS from another server, lirc, samba and a few other stuffs in background, but not much)

I have 2 x dvbt cards as below, and am wondering why I have to nuvexport each recorded show to translate it to MPEG. I realise I probably do to get rid of the commercials and begin/end edits etc, but can it not be speeded up ??? Do these cards have MPEG2 decoders on ????? Is there
any settings i can change in the system setup to make channel change a bit quicker and/or live tv (ie. soccer) a bit less jerky ??? I have seen a few things in there, xvmc etc, but dont want to change things when I know not what they do.........

Basically I want to see if there is a better configuration for my system to speed up a couple of things, get best performance and best settings for my hardware.......

I am hoping to learn a bit more from this post about the deeper workings of the excellent knoppmyth and myth system......

Or would a lot of this just be sorted by the R5E50 upgrade ????

I think this is pretty normal Linux will try to make good use of all your RAM by caching as much as it can.

I use a bunch of dvb-t tuners (usb twinham clones), and I dont have to do anything to get mpeg files. They automatically show up in the "pretty" directory/folder as mpeg files that I can copy to and play on Windows.

How are you using nuvexport and why?

R5A16 records as .nuv files. After you upgrade to r5a50 it'll start recording them as .mpg

For watching football i think i got best results using the bob 2x deinterlacer with xvmc. not 100% sure there, just try different combinations of the deinterlacers and xvmc.
