I am new to linux. I had been using SageTV as a pvr but had always read that mythtv was the best. I recently downloaded the knoppmyth iso and burned it to a cd. when installing, at the splash screen i type in "tv" <enter>. The program begins to compile and seems to be going along well until I get a "Kernel panic - not syncing..." followed by the next line saying "Bug: unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address ffffd320...".

I have searched this forum for an explanation of what this means but honestly, my ignorance of Linux is keeping me in the dark. Can anyone offer a layman's explanation and a possible solution??

And just so you know, I am running this iso install CD onto a system that currently has windows XP installed. Is this possible? or do I need a linux install already on the maching before running KnoppMyth? PLEASE HELP!

Did a search for this, it does seem to be fairly common here seems to suggest upping the RAM voltage. Have run memtest on the machine. This Ubuntu forums post suggest playing about with AGP settings.

No. KnoppMyth doesn't require anything to be on the hard disk. It will wipe out whatever is already there.
