lirc-reconfig.sh beautifully creates correct lirc configuration files (to the last button) and starts the lircd. However, irw makes the lircd die and regardless of whether lircd is running or not, the remote has only partial functionality such as the arrow and number buttons. Running R5D1 using Hauppauge WinTV Nova + silver remote.

What can be wrong?

I'm not sure if this is a KnoppMyth issue or IRW or what, but there's tons of threads that basically confirm that loading IRW kills LIRCD. I'm not sure if it's due to the Hauppaugge remote or what either (look for the MCE USB remote).

Am having the same problem too and from what I can gather it is due to lircd not connecting to the correct port i.e. /dev/lirc0

When I start lircd with:
lircd --device=/dev/lirc/0
It works but haven't worked out where this is set in the config.

BTW am using an R6 mceusb2

See the R5E50 hints posting here. http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13108 Search in that for lirc will tell you the files you need to pay attention to.

This post may help as the Nova-T appears to use a different input type than the PVRx50s.
