Is it possible?

kde is a desktop environment there is no way to have it run within mythtv you might could install a kde program and access it from mythtv.

Thats what I want to do, install the KDE deskeviroment and "boot'it" from MythTV! Can anyone tell me how this is done?

I have projektor attached to my HTPC. I use my HTPC for all my computing so I need to use Open Office and other software alongside MythTV.

Please help!

you cannot boot kde from mythtv, however you could boot mythtv from kde. In the new R5A versions of knoppmyth you should be able to apt-get install kde then you'll have to reconfigure gdm to boot it, and that of course would stop mythtv from loading automatically on boot.

As stated above just use
apt-get update && apt-get install kde
which I think gets you KDE 3.4.

You can check step 14 on the Fedora MythTV guide for how to automatically launch mythtv when you start KDE.

just a slight correction as knoppmyth is based on sid it will get you kde 3.3

3.4 has not been put in the unstable branch, but should be comming very soon now that sarge was released.

Heh. Did you do the calculations on projector bulb-life before deciding to use the projector full-time? :)

To Xsecrets:

KDE 3.3 is fine with me, I just want access to an regular desktop enviroment. Do you know how i could impliment KDE desktop in MythTV?

To brendan: I know it is expensive but I think it's worth it! It gives me an better experience then using a TV.

But what hasn't been is how to implement it in MythTV. Using a video card with TV out, plug that in to svideo in on capture card. Run KDE, launch MythTV and select proper input. There you have it, KDE in MythTV! :)

I assume you've installed KDE by now... so you can start MythTV from the KDE desktop. Have you got Mythtv turning on/off to record programs?

When my PC wakes up to record, it sits waiting in the KDE desktop. How (or did you) get around this?

Mythtv's backend should start when the computer boots. All you need is the backend running and it will record have is scheduled. KnoppMyth starts the backend automatically on boot.

Is KDE going to make the default sized / partition "tight" (on space) ?

If a auto install was done, a little tighter, but he should be ok. I really would be surprised if he came back and stated that he was using KnoppMyth.
