Hi there,

one of these problems you don´t know where to start solving.

1. Hardware:
Standard System with Athlon, Hauppauge PVR-150, TFT-Monitor, no TV.

2. What I did:
I changed the Screnn settings: I wanted to display the GUI and the liveTV in different video-Modes. I just tried to see, what happens. When I changed the GUI to 640x480 MythTV wanted to restart, what I granted.

3. What happend (the symptoms)
After the restart, I had a visible screen of 640x480 displaying part of this Tux-on-the-sofa-watching-TV-starting-screen. I could not use the mouse, though the mouse-pointer is visible. MythTV does not load. The system hangs there. So I cannot open or close anything.

When I switch to another tty, I only have a 640x480 part of a 1024x768 screen visible, too. At least I could type there.

4. What drives me mad
I am a n00bi to Linux (except for some kiddie programming back in ´93). I am not that familiar with the editors. I NEED the (now invisible) last line of the page to see, what commands I am typing. So I will have difficulties in solving my screen resolution problem without having the problem solved first.

Has Anyone any hints or at least some pity for me?

Have you use Ctrl-Alt-F1 to go to a text console?
You can use SSH to go in remotely, or use vnc.

Thanks, Bruce.

That would solve my No. 4 and at least I don´t go mad.

But how to I reset the screen resolution?

Waaaaaait!

Yes. I tried a text console. They also only show the upper left 640x480-part of a 1024x768 window. So I cannot see the right side or the bottom.

You can use a SSH client such as PuTTY to access a command line.
Where did you change the resolution in the first place?
It might be worthwhile posting your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.
