Hello,
I am installing knoppmyth for the first time, actually it is my first time working with linux, and when I boot up the installation disk I get this message across the KnoppMyth Main-Menu:

bcm43xx: error: microcode "bcm43xx_microcode4.fw" not available or failed
bcm43xx: core_up for active 802.11 core failed (-2)

I know broadcom doesn't supply linux drivers and I know about ndiswrapper and fwcutter but when is the best time to take care of this problem; before install, after install, or during install? And what is the best solution to get this wireless card to work? Remeber I'm a newbie so I'll need you to hold my hand. Thanks for any help.

I was able to get the wireless driver and knoppmyth to work together after lots of experimentation. It was much like trying to get a science project to work. The problem I had was simple. My computer's hardware acrhitecture didn't allow the knoppix OS to properly detect ALL devices connected to the motherboard. It worked, but I had to stop mythtv, stop the network manually, enable the wireless card manually, then resume mythtv.

My experience taught me that knoppmyth works best with an ethernet connection. Not only because of the hardware incompatabilities, but more data can flow to and from the backend through a CAT5 cable.

However, I have read postings on other websites from people who use MythTV with wireless connections.

Best of Luck

I have this type of wireless connection in my Dell laptop. It was a bitch to get going with ndiswrapper.

I have just done some searching on this and found that the driver is now included with 2.16 of the kernal, you still need the firmware though.

Try this guide, just be careful when adding repositories though.
