I am running a KM install as a backend in my cupboard. I can watch FTA DVB on it no problems. However I have a DELL Optiplex 260 in my loungeroom running suse 10.2. I have installed mythfrontend on it. The FE in lounge has ip 192.168.1.2. The BE has ip 192.168.1.3. The are connected through a cable modem router which has DHCP turned of and a fixed ip address of 192.168.1.1 which of course is the gateway.

I have commented out the bind address in my.cnf

When I run mythtv on the FE i get the mythtv front menu but if I try to watch the television a dialouge box pops up stating ' Could not connect to the master backend server--is it running? Is the IP address set for it in the setup program correct?'

terminal output is as follows

lounge:~ # mythfrontend

You probably should modify the Master Server

proper IP address.

Thanks. Although I didnt want to install KM on the frontend as it has been in the loungeroom for a while running suse 10.2 and allows the missus to access her mail etc. I didnt want to go through the whole re education thing. However I enabled NFS from the link provided in the HOWTO you pointed me too and things seemed to work. I only run mythfrontend at the command line (not mythtv) to get it started and changed the hostname to the IP of my backend (as i had already done) Just got a jumpy picture on HD live tv on the frontend so off to do some searching for that. Thanks mate
