FWIW
I had a similar problem with the monitor ( I run myth on Kubuntu 7.10) for me the solution was increasing the videoram to the max.. ( mine was an integrated vga card) the bios was limiting the videoram and x never showed that as an issue in the logs.. just refused to do the higher resolutions...
i did end up switching to the 'intel' driver. can't remember the reason.. then running 'X --configure' generated a working xorg.conf for me

Now that you mention it, I also had X generate my config file, and I maxed my videoram.

One thing that tripped me up when doing Xorg -config was pointer not being available. I copied this section from the KnoppMyth-generated config to bypass that problem:

When you say you maxed your video ram do you mean you physically added RAM to the mobo? Would make sense that at this res it may need more RAM.

BTW I discovered that if I patch the 1600x1200 res I get a signal now but it is a 1680x1050 image squashed & clipped into the above res. If I patch any lower res I get the 'no signal' msg on the monitor.

Can't help the last poster but that bump prompted me to post my update for anyone who's interested. I popped in the venerable FX5200 AGP card and bam, widescreen 1680 x 1050 on my first try. My guess is I didn't have enough video RAM on the mobo..

try 169.11

All the others i tried would not compile for me but that one works.
