Post subject:  SATA Manual Instal problem solved

While trying to install R5.5 to a new SATA drive I was getting the following error:

Quote:
Fatal dialog error:
Error: Expected at least 7 tokens for –checklist, have 4
Use –help to list options

No other posts on the forum helped, because in trying to run cfdisk, I discovered I have *no* /dev/sd? or /dev/xd? devices at all.

I solved the problem by going into the BIOS and selecting 'AHCI Mode' rather than 'SATA Mode' for the SATA drives.

Hope this post helps someone else with similar problem.

Where do you stand on this at the moment? Would you like to test drive R6?

The BIOS change only resolved the lack of devices. I was struggling with other configuration issues doing the manual install. My son was having a cable issue with a 500GB PATA drive in his computer - so we swapped. Then I did an automatic install. So I don't have a SATA drive in my system now.

So I can't test any SATA issues - sorry. I'd offer to test drive R6 anyway if I could help, but after 2 months of downtime my WAF is already seriously low -

On the plus side, R5.5 is working beautifully - :D

I've got the same problem & would be happy to try R6! Just point me to it.

Don't know if this helps, but I've got a new Maxtor 1TB SATA drive and the mainboard sports the VIA VT6420 Rev 80 chipset.

I've also tried running fdisk -l and cfdisk, neither one seems to recognize the drive.

sgf, if things are working well now, I don't want the Mrs to harm you.

ebo, is the drive recognized in the BIOS?
