Hey techman,

I'm a southerner, but only just...

My aerial is a newish hills number, and I installed it pointing in the same direction as everyone elses... so assumed it would be ok... might need to get up there and re-direct it... maybe the weather has pushed it out of direction?

Although, i get almost 100% signal when tuning in mythtv using the hdhomerun, and it finds every channel apart from SBS ones (it find all stations in the windows software!)... so i would think it less likely to be an antenna directional problem? My myth-based PCI cards find ALL channels at the 30-40% strength (including SBS), so further evidence suggesting that the antenna is ok?

Interesting that you experienced a degradation in signal during a R6 upgrade.. It is probably what happened to me also, but my signal strength was even lower than yours to begin with, so started seeing pixellation and audio pops after upgrade... I spose we'll never know what in the R6 upgrade caused the signal degredation, but it's odd that it would be worse on upgrade?

Cheers,

Nathan

Possibly some firmware issues, which should be resolvable.

If you want, we can tee up a day, you can come round and plug in to my antenna. Maybe share knowledge/beer.

One thing I did whilst I was building the motivation to climb on the roof (well my dad did the climbing as he got motivated when the family came over for easter) was I used a set of rabbit ears in a window that faced the direction of the antennas, in my last 3 houses the rabbit ears were better than the roof antenna. We own the current house, so getting the motivation to fix the antenna was easier.

Thanks for the offer of plugging into your antenna, and most importantly the beer... I might have to take you up on that one, but at the moment I've got my hands full with a 2month old baby, and inlaws... so time for "being a geek" is restricted to once everyone has gone to bed...

Too easy, I'm pretty snowed with work at the moment, but no baby just a mischievous 18 month old Beagle!
