I tried to install XBMC after upgrading to R7.3. This is what happens:
Code:
(17/17) checking package integrity                                 [#####################################] 100%
(17/17) checking for file conflicts                                [#####################################] 100%
error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
xorg-xdpyinfo: /usr/bin/xdpyinfo exists in filesystem
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

I did a search for xdpyinfo:

Code:
[root@mythion330-1 /]# pacman -Qo /usr/bin/xdpyinfo
/usr/bin/xdpyinfo is owned by xorg-utils 7.6-2

This page https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57205 says this: "Why this is happening: pacman has detected a file conflict, and by design, will not overwrite files for you. This is a design feature, not a flaw.
It is the user's responsibility to maintain their system, not the package manager's. (pacman -Qo may be invoked to query which package owns the file, if any.)
What can be done to solve this: The issue is usually trivial to solve. A safe way is to firstly check if another package owns the file (pacman -Qo <full file path>). If the file is owned by another package file a bug report If the file is not owned by another package rename (or remove) the the file which 'exists in filesystem', and reissue the pacman -Syu command. If all goes well, the file may then be removed."

I'm not sure what I should do next.
Any ideas?

My therapist says it's "okay to answer your own posts".

This command installed XBMC:
Code:
pacman -S xbmc --force

So far, no problems. As for R7.3, yes, it has Hulu and YouTube (that's what I was really after!), but in XBMC they seem to be much better integrated and responsive.

Cheers (and thanks again to Cecil et al!)!

No, rilly, my therapist says "it's okay"...

My purpose in installing R7.3/XBMC is so that I can drop my cable subscription. I used to record my favorite shows, just like many other MythTV users. "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report"...they look great in HD, and Myth faithfully records them...AND...skips the bloody commercials...and so does the XBMC version of Hulu...
