Well, as I install Knoppmyth I run into problems. Right after file copy finishes, the screen goes blank (not a reboot) and so I punch the keyboard. A few lines come back, and an incomplete one, and then blackness. The caps lock and scroll lock keys blink at about 1 Hz and the numlock light stays off. The machine becomes unresponsive and requires a hard reboot. Other distros don't seem to have an issue.

What should I do?

well two options.

1) hit the shift key every so often, so the screen never blanks, or
2) do alt+f2 to get an empty console and issue the command
setterm -blank 0
to keep the screen from blanking.

I don't think it is merely the screen blanking that is causing the problem... as it happens immediately after file copy every time, whether I do something to reset the counter or not. :|

I'll give it a shot anyway... but why would screen blanking hang a system?

long story, but the fact is that in the current release of knoppmyth it does on some setups.

Well, making the console not blank allowed the install to complete. Thanks for the help. :)
