I've been lookings all over the internet for any solid information on how to convert over to smp kernel. (I have a dual 533 Celeron acting as the backend which badly needs the other processor to work faster) I initially tried some advice by going into /usr/src/debs using dpkg and forcing it to install. This worked but the kernel would crash with initrd and ext3. I'll compile the kernel if i need to , but i really just want the box working in smp mode.

Also, i heard that R4V2 would automatically use an smp kernel if a multiprocessor system was detected, why was this support dropped and would you suggest falling back to that version or does it have bugs?

I decided to use R4V2 and it's fine as in using both processors but uses mythtv 0.13 and older versions of other software such as nuvexport etc. Anyone know if the alpha R5 works with multiprocessor smp out of the box?

I am only seeing one processor listed when I run 'top'. Is there a special parameter that needs to get set for SMP support?

I have a dual 750 Pentium, but it looks like it's only seeing one processor.

Thanks, sometimes I feel like such a noobie

Pressing the number "1" (while running top) also changes states from "CPU(s)" to "CPU0"
