Help, I have been scanning every post I can find on getting the pvr-350 working in knoppmyth installation. I was getting just a black screen when I try to watch tv.

I tried to follow quite a few of the posts that suggest that I need a new ivtv driver (original install is 0.1.9) I particularly followed this post which had a very detailed instruction on building and installing an updated ivit driver

However every time I try to modify the XF86Config-4 file my system fails on boot. The methods that use the driver set to fbdev fail and so do the methods using ivtvdev.

As you can see my card is in the right place by the output from lspci -v:

I am at a complete loss. I am really very green on linux. I can post any log files that are requested if any body is willing to help me. I am a real newbie so it would also be helpful to give me the syntax to use for any parsing of output of the log files to capture just the relevant information.

I restored my orginial XF86Config-4 file and removed the line in /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv that started ivtv-fb

and the backend starts up fine and the front end starts fine also.

I can now play live tv on the tv-out. The frontend mythtv menu runs only on the vga monitor and tv-out device is black. When I click on watch tv the tv-out device plays live tv but the vga screen goes black.

So I guess what I am missing is a good understanding of how to get the framebuffers working for X?

Should I still be trying to get ivtvdev to work? or should I be tring to get fbdev going?

Should I be using the line ivtv-fb in the ivtv file?

Does anybody have the paitence to walk me through this?

I think I am running into this same issue.

I want to view Live Tv on the VGA/DVI out of the video card, but when I click on "LiveTV" I just get a black screen, similar to a source with no connection.

I wonder how to get the signal coming into the PVR250 and view the output from the VGA/DVI out to a projector. Sounds simple, but it's been very hard so far for me.

With all the posts I have read I think it is a matter of configuration of the X manager but I sure don't seem to be able to tackle this one by myself. The next step I am going to try is patching my tuner module. I have seen postings that indicate that my newer pvr-350 (type=47) requires a patch. but I don't know if this is going to help me much with the framebuffer configuration.

Have you read the Wiki page about the 350? It was a very helpful guide in getting mine set up.

What model number is your card? I found this printed on the inside of one of the flaps on the box. Its also on a sticker on the actual card somewhere. Mine is a 990, but I think the 989s are almost identical.

Keep at it, you'll probally get it eventually and I found the quality to be great when I finally got it.

I think this is very dependant on which card you buy. I have a PVR-250 MCE card and it keeps loading a generic L4v driver and the Ivtv driver never loads.

I have no clue wtf is wrong..... I'm ready to kick this card to the curb and get a card that other have working. I have wasted 3 nights so far trying to recompile and patch, etc. MCE2005 may become inevitable at this point.

are you sure you got the 250 and not the 150?

8months and you still haven't ever gotten it to work????

R4V5 PVR-350 output procedure. The instructions already existing are pretty close, but a few key things are missing that can make it not work. Hopefully, I've filled these in (the tuner type and the BusID parameters).

Here is what I did:

First, my /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv file:


The important thing here is the tuner type. I believe that the "dmesg" command will let you know what tuner type it is.

Next, you need to backup your working /etc/X11/XF86config-4 file.

Then


Now, you must modify this file a bit. There are two important items, maybe 3.

Line 4, change it to "InputDevice "PS/2 Mouse" "CorePointer" if you use a ps/2 mose.

Next, line 113 where it specifies fb0 or fb1. To find out what fb device your PVR is, do the following:



(You may need to reboot with the new ivtv modules to get this to work, not sure...)

Look for this line:


Ok, one last thing in the XF file...the BUSID. If you do a "lspci", you should get something like this:



This for me translated into (line 117)



OK, now things match. You have to do a bit of fixup on the /dev/fb stuff.

This was posted, but here is what I did:


Probably did not affect me with fb0, but I did it anyway.

Last thing before the reboot, go to the setup screen from the mythtv interface, and work your way to the TV/Playback section (I think this is what it's called, looking at R5A12 atm..).

Check off the "Use the PVR-350's TV out..." option. Leave the rest alone (/dev/video16).

After reboot, all output goes out via the SVIDEO port of my 350 to my TV and works perfect.

I automated the install instructions from ALARSON's post. Here is mine to make it simple (I hope).
