I installed Knoppmyth R5A 15.1. I have a PVR-250 MCE (the one without the remote). I bought a separate IR remote which comes with a USB IR receiver. It has no name on it, but I think it's Phillips. The model is RC6. The transmitter is stamped OVU4003/00.

It looks like 15.1 of Knoppmyth has LIRC compiled into the kernel. It wasn't running, so I started it. Unfortunately, I'm a bit of a newbie and am not sure where to go from here. At one point I got a config screen for the remote (I don't remember at what point I got that). I told it it was a MCE remote. The service appeared to be running, but I didn't get it to work. So then I started to follow the instructions at lirc.org. I couldn't get the module to build to a deb file. Now when I start the lirc service I get an error:

I couldn't load the required kernel modules you should install lirc-modules-source to build kernel support for your hardware.

I'm not sure what to do at this point. Should I scrap the USB IR receiver and build my own? Should I start over with a fresh knoppmyth install? Or should I try building my kernel? Anyone have any good step-by steps?

i just tryed that on the wiki page with the mce remote and nothing of it worked in r5a16
i have followed the guide 10 times and i still cant get the mce remote too work

in the /etc/init.d/lirc you have too rewrite some links but the problem are that in my knoppmyth there isnt these lines at all

sooo if anyone else have got the mce remote too work then please post it

OK, so it's not the most correct wiki entry, but it's not that difficult to work out is it?

A more correct entry would be -

Edit the /etc/init.d/lirc and replace everything that starts
with "/usr/sbin/lirc*" with "/usr/local/sbin/lirc*"

e.g. /usr/sbin/lircmd -> /usr/local/sbin/lircmd
/usr/sbin/lircd -> /usr/local/sbin/lircd

It def. works R5A16 because I'm using it in my living room now...

Have you got all the files setup as in the Wiki?
Have you run the setup script?

Honestly the wiki works, it took me about 2 weeks solid work (I'm a noob too), but it does work, I recently tried it again on a new install...

i tryed to use the lirc-0.7.2pre3 version but then it messed up the remote and it was filling my log files withall kinds of stuff *LOL*

but i have no clue why it doesnt run like it should

another thing is that i had too use the lirc_mceusb2 kernel becouse of the mce 2005 remote
