I downloaded KnoppMyth the other day and tried installing it on my PVR Box. I insert the cd and see the boot screen so enter right into the boot. After the detection of my firewire and USB and the dvd and Harddrive devices the installation's cursor procedes to (during the attempt to connect to the CDROM drive) just flash and then suddenly stop, bringing the installation to a halt.

I've tried searching the forums for a similar problem, but can't seem to find one.(If there is a thread I'd be glad to read it)

My specs are:
Shuttle XPC w/ shuttle mobo
WD 200 gig hd (7200 rpm)
Hauggpage WinTV 350
DVD+/-RW 16x|NEC ND-3520A

I thought it might be a bad burn so i reburned the same ISO file with no luck. I then downloaded a second image(from another site) just to make sure that it was good and checked the md5sum to make sure it was a match.

Which Shuttle model? There are enough different ones that you really haven't told us anything useful by just naming the maker...

As for freezing on the CDROM... You might be able to add a boot option to get past that... although my memory isn't making a specific match maybe "noprobe", or "noapic". How do you have things connected? Check in your BIOS, the HD should be detected as you primary master IDE, and the CD/DVD drive as the secondary master. If not, that's the first thing to fix. Of course if the HD is a SATA model then all sorts of "fun" ensues...

The shuttle model is a ST62K.(with the mobo that comes with it)

I'll have to try the noprobe and noapic commands, but I'm sure that it's connected correctly both physically in the IDE and set up correctly in the bios... Anyother suggestions are welcome, also if you need more system info or info otherwise, just ask.

Neither of those commands (noprobe, noapic) do anything. To clarify it says looking for cdrom: /dev/hdc. Earily it enabled the dma acceleration in hdc. Anyhelp is appreciated.

I'm using the same DVD drive myself, http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5246 so I know it works with KnoppMyth R5A16. As a result I'm still guessing that you did something funky in the physical or BIOS setup. Double check to make sure it's on the secondary IDE channel, plugged into the MASTER connector on that cable and jumpered appropriately (CS - not MA or SL), and that your BIOS recognizes it as the secondary master.

The bios was still correct, but it was jumped as master, so I switched it to CS. Reguardless of that little issue, the problem still exists, although the cursonr does blink for quite some time, and doesn't freeze, but doesn't let me type anything either...

I don't see another way around it unless someone else has a simlar problem, so I'm just going to go with Mandrake and try using MythTV from there.

Thanks for your help, and if you can think of anything else, please let me know.

Some people have had problems with the boot locking up when they have their tv cards installed. It is thrashed over in this rather long thread. They were able to get things going by removing the card, installing knoppmyth, then building a new kernel, re-installing the card and then booting to the new kernel. You could try removing any non-essential hardware and disabling any non-essential features in the bios. This may get you through the install bit and let you determine what is at the root of your problems. If you can work out the problem, it is likely that a future release of knoppmyth can be made to work without issue.

Building the new kernal and reinstalling the card would be an issue for me(it being difficult), but I could try it.

The thread I linked to has pretty detailed instructions. You are going to have many other problems installing myth from scratch on a different distro.

Im not sure that that is your problem, but If I were you, that's what I'd be trying to work out.

I just took the card out, booted the pc, and still got the same flashing cursor...

To give a bit more detailed description of the problem:
It goes through checking the USB and firewire devices fine, then it does the dma acceleration for both hda (which it then lists the harddrive) and hdc (where it lists the dvd burner). It then says looking for CD in : /dev/hdc and the hard drive and dvd drive keep spinning for a minute or so, and then suddenly they both stop, but the cursor remains flashing

Can you disable anything in the bios? For example does that board have a sata controller?

I've done alot with it with no solid results...

To see if it was an issue in another linux OS, I tried installing Mandrake and had no problems, so it's not that.

Then I decided to burn the image with a dif iso burner, still no luck.

So I tried using a previous version (r5a15.1) and still, same exact error.

I took your advice on the Bios check, and did alot of fooling around with it with no luck at all...

Could I suggest you download Knoppix LiveCD and try and boot off that. That way you can confirm that it is something related to the boot sequence of KnoppMyth.

Just a suggestion
