emachine T2341
l7vmm2 motherboard
pvi-350card
2300+amd
2g memory

i tried for a week to load the ferora/mythtv setup from a website
no luck.

popped in knoppmyth hit auto and boom it popped up and ran
SWEET!

then reality showed up. that's right, i don't know cabbage about linux
and the whole project came to a stop.

i tried the short cuts on http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-11.html#ss11.1 but they don't work and the remote control does nothing.
nada, nothing. dead in the water.

i can only watch channel 4 with no sound for so long and then i'll have to go back to the evil world of windows.

I'm guessing Cecil probably won't think this belongs in install (it's post install configuration) so it may disapear, as a result I'll be very brief.

My first guess is tha you have a card with a newer chipset which needs a newer (alpha) driver. Search the forum for threads about tuner type and the ivtv driver. You may just need to tweak /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv and stop overriding the autodetection of the tuner type.

My second guess is that you've selected the wrong "frequency set" search for that too.

Given these keywords searching should quickly provide the answers to your questions.

My story is the same- couldn't get it to run on Mepis 3.3, so went the KnoppMyth route- up & running except it defaults to ch 4 (ntsc).

If I set the 'external tuner' to a channel in 'video source setup' to a channel, it'll be stuck on that one after re-boot. But none of the internal controls change the channel.

I have a new PVR-350 with the 'type 47' tuner, Kernals after 2.6.10 are supposed to have support, (and it does tune channels with sound..) but does not respond to the controls.
Is it a Myth issue.. or an Ivtv issue, and how do you 'tweak' it ?

1 ghz IBM
512m memory
200 g HD
PVR-350 (late)

glad i'm not alone(smiles) i tried 4 other dist. trying to load mythTV and they all sucked and took forever to find out that i couldn't get them to work.

knoppmyth was SO easy to load it was like working on a windows machine and to come so close to working and hit a wall bites.

i'll probably check this program out later to see if it gets better.
for now i'll give GB-PVR on an XP os a try. it looks to be the same layout and funtion but on a windows machine. once it's running i'll try to get this to work on another box.

Well, more reading and investigation solved it for me... it was a setup issue in Myth. In the backend setup (mythtv-setup) channel setup 2nd page- frequency id: I had left this blank 'cuz I had entered what I thought was enough channel numbers, and wasn't sure if this wasn't a frequency supplied automatically from the data download. No. What it's asking for is the channel number again, & it uses this number to change the channel. I suppose the reason for channel number again is for cases where cable rechannels to another channel frequency. This made it work, once the channel number was filled in. (for each of your set up channels.)
Hope this solves it for you too.

Snaproll, this sounds like good info for folks but it's not very clear. Could you provide the explicit menu path? I know the myth-setup screens pretty well from helping folks with them, and still can't figure out quite what you mean.

OK- Mythtv-setup... Option 5 Channel Editor... From the channels you set up in the window, you will need to select each of them, First page for each channel is name and channel number for display purposes... go to second page Channel Options: Video for Linux: First box top of page: frequency ID. THIS one is used to select the channel, every channel set up has to have the channel number (not frequency) here too, can't be left blank.
Do it for each channel you have set up in the channel editor.

Uhm... Why don't you just download that from zap2it like most people do?

Because I had a good Zap2it database in place, and it did not fill those boxes in automatically. Initially, I expected they would, but it didn't work until I filled them in manually.
