Post subject:  Newbie: could not open /dev/lirc iMon pad?

I am pretty new at this. I am trying to get the iMon IR remote that came with my Silverstone case to work.

I have downloaded the lirc stuff and done the configs and make an make install.

As a side note there are 2 choices for iMon, one is the PAD and the other is the Multimedian. I have tried both and failed (I think)

I am not sure about the mapping so I thought I'd use a utility to see if the system could see the remote.

When I run lircd it gives me no error

The dmesg line is:
lirc_dev: IR Remote Control driver registered, at major 61

Then I run irrecord and it dies with:

irrecord returns the following error:
irrecord - application for recording IR-codes for usage with lirc
Copyright (C) 1998,1999 Christoph Bartelmus(lirc@bartelmus.de)
irrecord: could not open /dev/lirc
irrecord: default_init(): No such device
irrecord: could not init hardware (lircd running ? --> close it, check
permissions)

There is no lirc file in /etc/init.d

I think /etc/lircd.conf is okay

I have spent the requires time questioning my sanity
thanks in advance for any help

I am not done yet, but the post for the pvr150 howto yielded
this step I did not know

9.) Add the following line to the end of /etc/modules
Code:
lirc_i2c

Modified in my case to
lirc_imon

This yields a couple more questions which I'll post in the other thread

videog,

I have run into the same problem. Every attempt to get the imon-pad remote to work has failed. If you have solved this issue, I would be glad to hear your results.

Basically, I am at the point where mode2 gives me an error stating that the device is busy. Oddly enough, irw works correctly. Myth does not respond to any ir commands from the remote.

I must say that I did have lirc working correctly at one point, but I was trying to re-compile with debuggging turned on and it has been broke ever since.

My process was as follows:
1. after clean install from knoppmyth, apt-get remove lirc
2. remove any config files in /etc
3. remove /etc/lirc directory and all of its contents
4. remove /etc/init.d/lirc
5. remove /usr/src lirc distro from knoppmyth
6. remove entries in /etc/devfs
7. remove /dev/lirc*

This, I think pretty much remove lirc from the box, hopefully completely. I next download the latest from lirc.org proceeded with the install.

I would gladly welcome any input you might have.

Thanks,
Dan
