I have a Nvidia GeForce MMX 4000 card I don't want to leave in my Knoppmyth box. I attempted to remove it when I changed the video output to point to my Hauppauge 350. I followed page two's instructions from here

http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... stallation

I then removed the Nvidia card and hooked it up to my tv. I booted and got 3 beeps and couldn't ping the box. So I put the card back in and attempted to use the revert to monitor instructions from the above wiki but now when I boot up it won't startx. I would like to be able to use a different Video card since the nvidia is just going to be sitting in the box. I put an ATI AGP card in and would like to be able to load it up and startx. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am at the point where starting over with the ATI card might be easier. I am a newby to Linux so I don't have tons of experience editing and no experience compiling.

If I've understood things, you had an nVidia card as your primary display, then you switched your display to be the Hauppage PVR-350 and removed the nVidia card. The beeps you heard were likely your BIOS yelling at you that you had no display card. See if your BIOS will let you configure it so that it doesn't care if there's a video card attached. That's the best way to go.

Failing that, you now have X configured to go through your PVR-350 (assuming that was all done correctly) or X is set up to load an nVidia driver and use an nVidia card (assuming the PVR-350 configuration as X display was not done properly). In either case, you introduced a new piece of hardware that didn't have the benefit of being auto-detected and configured by KnoppMyth. However, if you really did set the PVR-350 to be your X display, it shouldn't matter if you have an ATI card in your AGP slot.

In summary, if you want to use the PVR-350's coaxial out for X windows, double-check your steps for setting that up. It really should work unless Hauppage started making PVR-350s that are incompatible with the older ones used to write those instructions. If you get that working, X will not care about your other video cards, but your BIOS still may. See if you can tell the BIOS that it shouldn't care if there's no AGP card.
