Hi,
I installed knoppmyth VR5, and after 2 weeksof RTFA'ing and struggling, managed to get mythtv/ivtv to work with my pvr150-350 dual tuner setup and configged everything in mythtv properly and recompiled lirc and configged that for my remote. I was wondering if it is safe to run apt-get update/upgrade/dist-upgrade on this system. Will anything break? Here are the packages that apt-get dist-upgrade wants to upgrade:

If you are talking about R4V5 I can almost gurantee that something will break, though I couldn't tell you what it'll be.

Not something I'd advise.

Why do a dist-upgrade on a working system? The only reason to upgrade is to fix something or add features. Upgrading to R5A22 would be a better alternative.

Well I was thinking of routine security and bugfix updates, that sort of thing. It doesn't look safe though. It seems a bit much to do a full reboot-offline-upgrade every time just for keeping out the potential security bug, is all.

As you are worriedabout security, I hope you box isn't live on the Internet. MythTV isn't programmed w/ security in mind as it "would effect performance".

Well I'm behind NAT router that's not forwarding ports to the box from WAN, and mythweb is password protected thru .htaccess, and I'm running guarddog, so...
