Post subject: | 5A22 PVR-150 and (of course) no sound = FIXED |
Hi everyone, I've been searching (a lot) in both this forum and google, but I cannot seem to find the answer to my issue. The subject says it all. Some idiot (#1248962368) with a PVR-150 who can't hear anything looking for help. This is a fresh install of 5A22 with ivtv-0.4.0. No crazy upgrades or silly stuff like that. ![]() Asus P5S800-VM w/onboard audio (RealTek ALC655 6-channel CODEC) Win-TV PVR-150 (non-MCE) Asus V9520-X (nVidia gForce 5200 FX 128 MB) AGP 8x video card My DISHNetwork box is feeding the PVR-150's S-Video input and the onboard audio input. I'm taking composite TV out of my video card to my TV and the onboard audio out into the TV as well. FWIW, I do hear the POST beep on boot thru the TV speakers Now, I can get audio out of my tv...but it's the line-in audio, so it's 5 seconds or so ahead of picture. I have run Code: alsamixer -V all and checked that:1. Master fader is up and unmuted 2. PCM fader is up and unmuted 3. Line fader is up, set to capture and muted 4. Even tried a few that were not there (i.e. ALSA:default, ALSA:analog) AC3 option on that same page is unchecked. I also ran Code: alsaconf but that didn't help either.I have tried adding the following lines to a /etc/modprobe.d/ivtv file that I got from http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=HauppaugeOneFiftyInstallation Code: alias char-major-81 videodev alias char-major-81-0 ivtv alias char-major-61 lirc_i2c options ivtv tuner=39,50 ivtv_std=1,1 tda9887=0 From what I understand, because I have less than 1000 files in my /dev directory (I have 96) I shouldn't need the /etc/modprobe.d/ivtv file with ivtv-0.4.0 anyway. I checked my Code: /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/modules/drivers/media/video and made sure the Code: msp3400.ko, tveeprom.ko, tuner.ko and tda9887.ko were all renamed. As far as I can tell 5A22 did all this on it's own at install. All these files had .HIDE attached to the end.I feel I'm forgetting some things I tried, too. A couple things catch my eye, but I'm not sure what or how to deal with them. First, in my dmesg, I see Code: bt878: AUDIO driver version 0.0.0 loaded and something about a version 0.0.0 of anything seems odd. Second, I see some lines in my /proc/modules Code: v4l2_common 6784 2 saa7146_vv,bttv, Live 0xe0c15000 about oss sound that I think may not be right. Does anyone have any ideas? You're supposed to run sound out of your Dish box into the PVR-150, not your sound card. Works perfect on my 150 with a stock installation. |

So, you're saying that my current signal path of: DISHNet box (S-Video) --> PVR-150 DISHNet box (L/R RCA Audio) --> Onboard RealTek Audio input nVidia gForce 5200 FX (Compsite Video) --> TV Onboard RealTek Audio output --> TV will not work unless I use: DISHNet box (RF out - video & audio) --> PVR-150 nVidia gForce 5200 FX (Compsite Video) --> TV Onboard RealTek Audio output --> TV? I'll give that a shot and report back, but can you explain to me (or point me to documentation) how using the RF input will work and my current set up won't? My problem seems to be audio getting out, not getting in, so I'm confused as to how the RF input on the PVR-150 will solve my problem. Thanks for the reply. |

Yes. Unlike the YUV (aka BTTV) capture cards which only capture raw video frames, the PVR cards do onboard encoding and produce a complete MPEG-2 stream that already includes the audio track. |

Is this the case for all PVR-x50 cards? I would really like to have some better input quality than the RF input (i.e. S-Video). Thanks! |

Yes, and huhn? S-Video doesn't carry any audio information. That's what the 1/8" jack on the cards is for. See this picture The audio input jack is second from the right. Of the three video inputs only the left most threaded one for the tuner accepts a combined signal. For the other two you feed it the audio via the stereo mini jack. |

tjc & all, I'm sorry, but I am DUMB! I totally missed that the PVR-150 card has an audio input! ![]() |

Alrighty... I re-installed 5A22. Used the audio input on my PVR-150 (Man, was I dumb not to notice that.) and the audio worked perfectly and is in sync with picture. Thank you! |
