i am trying to set up teh nforce drivers for audio and ethernet so i can download my program guide, hear stuff, etc.

i have teh drive file on a cd, now i have 2 problems first i cant find the console, when i try running xconsole it says the console couldn't be found also i cant see my cd drive on the desktop

Uhm... WHY? KnoppMyth supports The Nforce chipsets right out of the box.

I've used several earlier versions up through R5A16 on an older Nforce2 based motherboard (Shuttle SN41G2), and am currently using R5A16 on a Nforce3 based motherboard. There are also many reports of folks using Nforce4 based motherboards. No muss no fuss, they just plain work. The forcedeth network drivers work beautifully, and audio should be recognized as a standard AC'97 compatible. For video just follow the installation pamphlet or the wiki which tell you how to run the script to install the nvidia drivers provided with KnoppMyth.

BTW - KnoppMyth is using fluxbox which is a very minimal and lightweight window manager. It doesn't work like the MS-Windows desktop stuff. No magic CD icons or the like.

hmmm im using the new 6100 chipset, when i installed it it said something along the lines of no supported ethernet, i havent had audio issues yet i was just curios . . . hmmph

You do realize that bleeding edge hardware is not generally the best choice for Linux right? This is a brand new chipset (only announced on Sept 20th!) and it takes a while for the Linux kernel driver folks to catchup. Unless your motherboard manufacturer provides Linux drivers (a very rare thing) or you can find appropriate drivers on the NVidia website (BTW - they take a while to catchup too) you're probably stuck doing something like installing a cheap NIC card for now. Running netcardconfig by hand may help but I wouldn't bet on it...

Also, when asking question like this it is important to provide as many hardware details as possible.

nvidia has drivers on their site, the problem is i cant istall them without seeing the console and copying the files off the cd to somewhere i can see

Can you switch to an alternate virtual console? (Try Ctrl-Alt-F1)

If not you may be able to boot from the CD and mount then chroot into the root partition on the HD.

Look at your keyboard. You should see keys labelled "Ctrl" (or "Ctl"), "Alt", and "F1". Press them all at the same time. The display should change. You should see a mostly blank screen with a text login prompt in the upper left corner. Type "root" and hit enter. You should see another prompt asking for the password. Type the root or superuser password that you set during the install process and hit enter again. You will get a shell or command prompt that looks somerthing like this root@black2:~# you can now enter shell commands as described elsewhere. If that doesn't work...

Boot like you did to install. From the menu select "Quit (exit to a console promp)". You'll end up at a command prompt again. A search of the forum will provide details of how to proceed from here.

in the event that i cant figure that out, will any generic(not generic, but should i look for a specific brand) PCI Network Adapter work

The D-Link (DFE-530TX+) ones are cheap (~$9+$5SH at NewEgg, <$20 at CompUSA, ...) and known to work.

As I told king kilr in a PM, I was able to get the onboard networking to work on my 6100 MoBo by following the instructions in this old thread

looks like this justifies a trip to return the network card YAY

For $15 it's hardly worth the trip. I put mine in my spare parts box. It's one of those things you want to have around as "cheap insurance" like a spare video card.

your probobly right, anyhow i wish i had a spare vid card(genius me gets inegrated with no TV-out so i have to get an adapter box, WOOHOO)
