Hi!

I'm more of a FreeBSD guy, so I don't know much about linux, but I've downloaded the KnoppMyth iso, burnt it and booted it.
If I do an auto install and try to boot the mythtv box, then it doesn't even seem to load the kernel???

its the R5A22 img.
The first disk is a 250gig drive.. could this be an issue?

HI ssch,
Man, if you expect help with this you really nead to give the folks here some more details. Most any ide drive over 8 gig will work, sata and scsi need special treatment. Do the typical thing and try to seach for your symtoms.

http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q ... as_qdr=all

Liv2Cod made this special just to help everyone help themselves a little. (May want to book mark it also)

As a point to start, check jumpers for master as KnoppMyth expects hda1, no usb stuff plugged in, keep it simple until it is up and running.

The reason why it didn't post anything is - there isn't anything to post!

I run the installation and that seems to be doing what its supposed to do, and when I reboot *nothing* happens after it says that it found boot-strap on IDE-0.

I'll post that in a minute once I've repeated the process again if you're still interested.

Discs are normal ide disks, jumpers are ok - I used this pc for freeBSD just up untill this install.

What Mike meant is that you're not providing enough in the way of hardware details. There are some known issues with certain hardware that are trivial to diagnose given the info but "mysterious" without it. What make/model of drive is it? How is it jumpered? What's the motherboard and chipset? Have you disabled the splash screens so you can see any interesing BIOS or bootloader messages? ...

Why would we need this much detail? Well how about the fact that many WD IDE drives will NOT be detected as bootable devices by an Award BIOS on an NForce2 chipset if they're jumpered as MA rather than CS. Obscure as all blazes if you don't know that particular bit of trivia, no big deal if you do. There are other combinations that only work if the drive is jumpered MA. So please, provide enough details that we can help you. Otherwise we're just playing "Doctor it hurts."

AMD XP 1.6g
ASUS A7N266-VM/AA nforce/w onboard sound disabled
1gb RAM
PNY GF FX5200 128mb/tv out/dual vga (I'd like to output video to TV, and OS on VGA, possible?)
Hauppage 878
SB Live!
IDE1: WD80gb
IDE2: Seagate 60gb
IDE3: Pioneer DVD
IDE4: Maxtor 300gb
Logitech mediaplay wireless mouse (I'd like all the buttons to work if possible)

It sounds like I'm having the same problem. It seems to install fine, but hangs after install on first reboot, where lilo should pickup and boot the os (after bios post). No error or msg is displayed on the screen. I've done the auto install and manual install with same results. :?

Hi Freakin_Cracker,

What version?

It is possible the boot flag for hda1 didn't get set, also sometimes it makes a difference if master or cable select jumper position.

You can re-boot from the install cd, break out to a terminal and then # cfdisk to check the boot flag is set for hda1. Just be careful so you don't have to a re-install.

If you have to re-install lilo (or forget root passwd) you can do that also from the install cd.

You could also try disconnecting the ide 2 & 4 drives until up and running. Then you should be able to add them back into the system.

I have found that if you have a drive with KnoppMyth previously installed to a drive that is connected to the system, it seems to become confused at boot time. Haven't tried in while so that maybe an old issue.

Let us know results :)
Mike

Pri master/slave are running in CS, good idea. I'll try the other tips too. Thanks! :D
