I was all excited about MythTV, I bought my PVR 350 card, I ordered a USB-UIRT (Reading other forums for other software). I just relized that the UIRT does not seem to be supported very well with Myth... am I correct in this or am I just not finding the right source of information?

Thanks, Walter

Things are beginning to change with the status of the USB-UIRT and myth.
If your willing to patch and tweak you can get it working. Google search usb-uirt forums.

I have been using it as an expensive blaster for a year, but soon i hope to have it transmitting and blasting.

I will try to post how i get it working when i do. There is only a little hope that the patch will be incorporated into LIRC anytime soon.

You need to be comfortable recompiling lirc but this worked for me.

For knoppmyth its slightly different for the paths that refer to gentoo.

Also, there are a few errors if you don't force libtools to use the system version and blasting will double everything because of a mistake in the patch.

At least i and several others were having these issues that prevented using it as a receiver and blaster in myth at the same time.

Now it is fixed and working nicely. I can repost it here if someone is interested.

I'm only using it a receiver but I think your steps would make a great howto doc.

Please post them.

Thanks,
Ben

Sorry if you've found this already but http://www.usbuirt.com/phpBB2/
has some great info. From other searches, and If I understand it correctly, lirc 0.81 now has support for the USB-UIRT but Knoppmyth doesn't seem to support it yet, 'out of the box'.

Anyone get it to work as a transmitter, please post the info!

I have done this with R5E50. Let me know what level of detail you need.

Basically, since its included in the latest lirc, you just follow the wiki for compiling from source. Need to change the path to usr for knoppmyth

The new kernel headers should work in R5F1 so you may not need the whole kernel source.

I will be upgrading to R5F1 in a few weeks and will be more exact then.

Do you happen to have the steps involved in making this work with RE50? or even R5F1?

I've had no luck, and would really like this device to work :)

i will try it this week with R5F1.

From my memory, I added the source line to /etc/apt/sources.list

then I apt-get source lirc or something (to get the latest version of lirc which includes usb-uirt)

then

I .setup.sh or somthing and I saw usb-uirt as an option

I chose it and followed the compile your own directions the rest of the way.

i changed /etc/lirc/hardware.conf to include the uirt2 raw ??? driver (or default)

and the device was /dev/usb0 i think...???

Then it started working.

I'll post it later this week.

Sorry it took me longer than expected.

I edited the wiki to show how this works with the latest version R5F1

http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=LIRCHowTo

choose usb-uirt as your device.

let me know if it doesn't work for you and update it if there are problems

thanks
