Can anyone tell me which remote this is? I have tried the lirc-reconfig.sh script with both the Hauppauge silver and gray options and the mceusb silver option.

Any help appreciated!

About half way down this page is a good picture

Is it gray, silver, black, pewter, brushed aluminum, ...

The MCE cards don't support a remote directly so without even looking it's most likely a USB remote. From a quick peek it looks like the usual "Media center" remote. Frankly, for about the same price you can get a non-MCE PVR-150 with both a remote and an IR blaster. The non-MCE is actually a $2-3 cheaper than the kit, and I'd recommend it even if the difference went the other way.

for those of us who have already bought a pvr500 with the remote above, how do we go about getting it to work properly?

1) Determine what type of remote it really is
2) Search here and in the wiki for information on setting it up.

This has been cover in the past, and the write ups I've seen looked pretty detailed.
