Hello, I'm fairly new here. I just got my knoppmyth going and the time goes back 6 hours when i reboot. I can change the time using ntpdate, but the next time I reboot it goes back. Help.

If it were me, and it was a 5 hour jump, I'd suspect a timezone problem. I may have one anyway. Right now, I need my MoMo set to GMT, and then Linux knows it's 5 hrs behind. If you're in central time, this may be factor for you.

Oddly, on New Years morning, my MythTV box thought it was 1/1/2004! I'm not sure when it happened, as I rebooted a lot on NYE, staying up late to watch the ball drop and configure LIRC. (I finally went to bed, leaving LIRC as my first new years resolution)

Thanks, i found that and it fixed it. This new version is nice, but it still takes a patient person to figure it out. Here's a list of the things I had to tweak.
1. video card not set correctly in myth (easy one)
2. time zone issue
3. silver remote had to be setup
4. dvd player had to have additional files downloaded
5. weather not setup correct, won't let me change area. (still working on it)
All in all not a bad list. Sure beats trying to load it manually on another linux system.

Get used to the DVD player 'missing' stuff. That's courtesy of our kind DMCA overlords that require a bounty be paid (but only by specific companies) in order to legally play a DVD. There might be one linux distributor with an actual license for DVD playback (Linspire maybe?) but that's it.

Personally, I paid good money for my DVD collection and anything I rent, and if I want to watch it on a linux-based box, the RIAA can kiss my uh-oh.

Assuming that the above went according to plan, you should be able to boot from the hard drive and log in using the user name and password you designated during the install. One of the first things you might notice is that the time (and possibly date) are not correct.

One weakness of the knoppix-installer script is that it does not ask you to enter your time zone during the installation process. You are also not asked if you want to set your hardware clock to local time or UTC. Solving these issues is not hard, though not particularly intuitive. On the command line (as root), enter the following commands (in this order):

1) tzconfig or tzsetup (to set time zone)
2) date MMDDHHmmCCYY (to change the date & time)
3) hwclock --localtime (to set hardware clock to local time)
4) hwclock --systohc (to set system time to hardware clock)

Finally, you can check it to make that all is as it should be:

5) hwclock --show

Optionally, if you are corrected to the Internet, you could run the script fix-time.sh. In order for this to work, you'll still have to first run tzconfig or tzsetup to set the correct time zone. Also, your firewall must not be blocking NTP (Network Time Protocol).
