Did you check your BIOS settings to make sure you don't have some kind of antivirus protection switched on which keeps you from writing the boot sector or formating the disk? I'd refer you to the wiki where there is a very long list of things to check, but Xsecrets is over his bandwidth quota for the month.

Well I could not install without moving the CS jumper to MASTER -
no problen with that.

After what seemd a sucessfull install, it would not boot,
so being an experienced pro (ha ha) I serenditiously put the jumper BACK to
CS (from master) and hey presto!

It boots - just thought this might help someone else

Have you got the drive in the right position on the cable? For PATA IDE drives you should always have the master drive at the end of the IDE cable. I just posted a link yesterday to an older posting with all the relevant details. I think this is the one. http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7577&postorder=asc&start=18

I am curious tjc - what sort of quota do you guys have:
I don't think I get a quota on OUTGOING only incoming (except stuff cached by the ISP - tucows, much linux, etc)

1) This was more than a year ago.
2) Xsecrets originally set up the KnoppMyth Wiki http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/ at a hosting service with reasonably high but finite monthly bandwidth limit. As it became more popular (and some users abused it with antisocial browser settings) he started hitting that limit before the end of the month. This is simply one of the realitys of setting up a hosted website.
