Thanks to all in the forum for all the help in setting up my Knoppmyth box. I've logged everything I've used and installed so far for others to share. Everything is pretty much dialed-in with the exception of digital optical audio out.

I've done a lot of googling and searching this forum for instructions on how to get Java on Mozilla Firefox. I tried some instructions listed on a Ubuntu/MEPIS board and on the Mozilla plugins page to no avail. I check the 'about:plugins' in Firefox and it still does not show java (FYI mplayer and flash both seem to work just fine).

I'm good with 'apt-get' but am a bit leery of typing in dozens of lines of code to get this Java thing working. My setup is running great and I am paranoid (rightly or wrongly) of doing another 'make install'. Is there an 'unofficial' package repository that I can apt-get to make my Firefox browser work with java? If not, I would appreciate the most straightfoward method available (ie fewest amount of command lines required).

There may be an unofficial repository, but I usually just use java-package from an official repository. once it's installed just type man make-jpkg to learn how to make a custom java package for your system.

Hi ewills,

I load in an app called FreeMind and that also loads java. a "twofer" Watch for line wrap...

as root:
##sets up for freemind
echo "deb http://eric.lavar.de/comp/linux/debian/ unstable/" >> /etc/apt/sources.list
echo "deb-src http://eric.lavar.de/comp/linux/debian/ unstable/" >> /etc/apt/sources.list
apt-get update
apt-get -y install freemind

From the desktop, right click >Apps >Text >FreeMind also very handy to "browse your system" select Mode > File For your viewing pleasure of the tree

mjl:

freemind did not work, but the following did (from the ubuntu guide) once I added your lines to my /etc/apt/sources.list:

sudo apt-get install sun-j2re1.5
java -version

(then restart firefox)

Thanks for your help!
