Here's the symptom, but I cannot begin to know what info you would find valuable so please ask!

Anyway, when I finally get the system to boot to X, the xterm window opens but appears empty, if I right click the desktop to get a menu I instead get a part of the menu and as I move my mouse around the screen the parts I see change, if I try and drag the xterm window parts of it disappear and parts never move.

I have the following:
P3 1Ghz on intel chipset
Creative Labs Nvidia TNT2 Ultra w/ tv out
PVR-150
SB Live 5.1

Using Release 5A30.2
Using Nvidia Drivers 6629 (installed using included script new ones won't work with this old video card)
Tried both TV out and VGA with no sucess.

I haven't seen any errors in the logs I have checked, so I think the system believes it's fine.

Please, any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated!

Joe

Hi,

My guess is that you are running in a "virtual" desktop because your monitor is unable to do the higher res. Did you by chance install by just pressing enter? If so that will give you a 1024x768.

If that is the case you can edit the XF86Config-4 file and remove the "1024x768" which is probably in the 24 bit depth listing. An xserver restart should select the "800x600" or you could put on a different monitor.
