Post subject: | Installing Knoppmyth instead of SuSE 10.0 |
Hi, I downloaded KnoppMyth as ISO, decompressed, try to install it on a computer running SuSE 10.0. I would like to kick off SuSe, but I don't get KnoppMyth to run the installation process. I'm not good enough to manipulate GRUB. Any suggestions are very welcome. Thanks Urs |

What do you mean by "decompressed"? Normally you would burn the ISO directly to a CD and then boot from it. Have you got your bios set to boot from the CD? |

G'Day Greg, I'm in Sydney and just about to build a Myth box basically as per the Dragon the only variation being a bit bit more ram and DViCo FUSION Dual Digital TV Tuner, what have you heard in regards this card and Linux support, some say it's fine and others seem to have problems. What's the weather like in SA? I'm moving the family there in about six months. |

I first inserted the burned iso-file, went to YAST, Bootloader-manipulation, seached the Kernel: /media/cdrom/KnoppMyth4v5.iso. Initial Ram-Disk: /boot/initrd, Root-Device: /dev/hda1 By that way I got an error message Error 15, file not found. When I repeated with the decompressed iso-file: same errors. Thanks |

When the iso is burned to a cd, it becomes a bootable cd. Just boot from the cd to do the install. You may need to set your computer's bios to enable booting from cd. There is no need to do anything with a bootloader, decompressing the iso or anything to do with YAST. I have no idea where you got those crazy ideas. |

Even with Bios set to cd-rom as first place to start, I always see GRUB starting SuSE. I then tried to get an opportunity to select the new kernel, but until now without success. Therefore I tried to decompress and so on. Could it be a bad burn of the image? |

berneru, When you burn the CD, don't copy the iso onto it like a file and burn it. You need to select a special option in your burner software to create a CD from an image. Then select the iso as the source for your image. That should create a bootable CD for you. jzigmyth |
