Post subject:  Not able to get through auto install.
I am trying to install knoppmyth thanks to my youngest son getting me interested. I am trying to use the auto install and loose keyboard, curser, literally all control at the screen to enter a password. The only key that works once i get to the password screen is the return key and that cycles me through the password install screens. I think i have the latest CD of knoppmyth, 250gb hard drive, setting up on an older 17" monitor that works well (changing screen resolution no help), lots of ram.
Can anyone suggest what I am obviously overlooking?

the cursor does not show on these screens, however the keyboard is still working. just type in the password you want then repeat it on the next screen.

HI jim70739,

During the install when you add the passwords, nothing is displayed for either the user or the admin. Later when you have to login as admin to finish the setup, again there is nothing echoed. During the setup of the network, if you do manual the cursor isvisable as the same background color so it will cover the charactor it is currently over. So it will look like 92.168. instead of 192.168. Just try moving the arrow keys for a sense of feel.

Also the cursor is set to be hidden when in the Myth screens however will reappear when needed in a couple of plugins. One plugin that comes to mind is the mythweb.

As a little secret, if you do an alt x to open a terminal window, then when the mouse is focused in that box the cursor turns solid white. If you have a window or something open and it disappears, try an alt tab to bring it back.

I am not use to how smart people make systems work. XP has dumbed me down.

Hi jim70739,

Glad we were able to assist a little. Since it sounds like this is your first go at it, feel free to ask all the questions you need. There is a tremendous pool of talent here on the forums (caution, some are quite humble) so someone should be able to assist.

For future reference, include some hardware details.. like KnoppMyth version, cpu, motherboard, cd / dvd, mem, drive size, tuner card if you have one, sound, network those basic things as some flavors have little quirks.

Also there is a pamphlet as kind of a guide and Xsecret's wiki. You will need an account with labs.zap2it.com to get your listings (free in exchange for a survey quiz) There is a coupon string of numbers/letters to use to get the account and I believe that is available on the wiki.
