Post subject:  Making my KnoppMyth computer work as a wireless router

Hi!

I'm a linux newbie, so I prefer detailed help and programs with GUI :-)
Anyway, I've just installed KnoppMyth R5B7 (auto install) and it works fine - it even works with my Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2 right out of the box. Since I'm planning to have this machine running 24 hours a day, it might as well act as a server too. First I would like it to act as a wireless router, with firewall, DHCP, etc. The box is connected directly to the internet thru a wired NIC, and what i would like to do is to install a wireless NIC, and an ekstra NIC, so that whatever i connect (either wireless or to the second wired nic) will be given an ip adress 192.168.1.x and will have access to the internet, while being protected by a firewall. How do i do such a thing (installing nics, software, setup, the whole works). thanks

A good way to look at knoppmyth is that its just a debian install.

Doing what you want to do is path that has been traveled many time before and
is quite well documented.

Guarddog is a good gui for iptables -- you can use this for firewall setup

There are a million howto's on setting up dhcp -- just tell it to hand out same IP
for a given MAC address.

remember google is good, use it. -- When you get bogged down, post your question.
There are plenty of very smart people that can answer your questions and point you in
the right direction --
