Is there an easy way without running mythtv-setup to unlock "Watch TV" live video if you select an encrypted firewire channel?

R5B7 will not let you change the channel once you have failed to connect to an encrypted channel. Changing the channel manually on the cable box will fix it only 1 out of 5 cases, because Myth reselects the bad channel.

This is with a moto 6200 via firewire on Comcast.

Thanks in advance.

Can't you just go to:

http://<your mythbox>/mythweb/settings/channels

and remove the encrypted channels?

Sure after I go through all of them one by one. Locking up the system and resetting using mythtv-setup. According to Comcast nothing is encrypted, which I know is not true. In fact, almost all HDTV channels except the ones available Over-The-Air appear to be encrypted.

I also expect that the status of channels may change over time. It certainly has for others in this forum. Given that it is not going to be very easy to check that if the system locks up everytime you do a check.

So I guess I am experiencing expected behavior given current status of Firewire support in Myth?

That's a safe guess.

Hope there is somewhat of a resolution in the future...

I just went through this with R5C7 and at least with that version I was able to exit back to the frontend, then schedule a recording for a channel that I knew worked, cancel the recording after a few seconds, then when you go back to live tv it will go to the channel you set to record on...

I'd love for this bug to be fixed in 0.20...

Until then, whenever I'm 'stuck' on a channel that uses 5c blocking, I can watch Live TV and use the cable box's remote control, tune to a channel that is not blocked. MythTV doesn't know I changed the channel on the set top box, but at least I'm able to change channels without the frontend freaking out.

You need to file bug reports with the MythTV folks. If you want MythTV to improve, get the latest SVN, compile and install. Test to see if the problem still exist. If in does, open a bug report. Read the MythTV docs for more.

You can remove them from Myth, but the cable box can still access them if you are browsing the channels via the cable remote. I understand that if I am recording an HD program via firewire and I change the channel on the cable box, it is going to screw up that recording...but I'd rather it didn't screw up the entire connection to the cable box so that nothing else records until I reboot or manually fix the problem.
