I recently upgraded to R5D1. In general it works very well and has many significant improvements over R5A30.2 Having said this, I am observing an occasional problem with A/V sync of recordings made from the Motoroloa 6200 tuner. This problem does not occur with recordings made from analogue sources via my Hauppauge PVR-250. That is why I am posting in the DTV forum.

Some more factoids:

1. If I start playback from the beginning of the video, A/V sync is off by serveral seconds.

2. If I do a single "skip backwards", A/V sync recovers and remains in sync for the rest of the playback.

3. The is one exception to # 2. If playback is so close to the start of the recording that the "skip backwards" takes me all the way to the beginning, then I will continue to have A/V sync problems.

It's not a serious problem, but I was wondering if others have seen this and if it's a known-issue?

Marc

I've seen this on previous releases, and I'm using over-the-air recording cards in my KM box. It's just an hdtv thing I guess.

Liv2cod, thanks for the reply. I have a few questions:

1. Did you see this problem in the R5A* releases? (ie: 0.18.x)?

2. By "over the air" recordings, do you mean OTA digital or OTA analogue? I suspect digital, but I just want to be sure.

3. Does it happen with all recordings, or only some?

Thanks!

Marc

I have seen that on the R5A releases and it seems to be random, worse with live tv. I use both hdtv from qam and hdtv from firewire on a 6200. never worried too much about it since a skip would cure it.

X, thanks for the follow-up info. I'd noticed that one of the big improvements in R5D1 over R5A30.2 is that the mythfrontend never crashes when I try to play HD recordings. Some HD recordings used to cause FE crashes. I was wondering if those are the ones that are now causing the A/V sync problem, but it sounds like this is an old issue.

I agree with your point that hitting skip-back is not a big deal...

Switching to XvMc sometimes fixes this. It did on my box however the HD stream is coming in through Firewire via a Motorola 6412 Series III.

afrosheen, thanks for the suggestion. In my case I always use XVMC and I still have the problem. My recordings are from a motorola 6200 series via firewire -- very similiar setup to yours.
