Post subject:  Freecom DVB-T USB Stick problems

Hi,
I'm new to Knoppmyth (and have only been using linux on my desktop for a couple of months).

I'm trying to set up a machine (Dell optiplex 170L) as a myth box using a Freecom DVB-T USB stick as the tuner.
I don't seem to be able to get even the basic settings right.

I've downloaded the dvb-usb-wt220u-fc03.fw firmware but don't know how to set it up from this point.

I've tried searching on the wiki, but not been able to find the answers.

It seems that there is a relatively simple solution for this, but I can't find it.

Thanks
James

Now it depends which generation of the Freecom dvb-t stick you have.

1. Original Digital only DVB-T stick

Should work but you need a different firmware - dvb-usb-wt220u-01.fw

I currently use this unit myself

2. Updated Digital only DVB-T stick

This one needs the other firmware - dvb-usb-wt220u-fc03.fw - and a newer DVB driver. Can't confirm if it works with Knoppmyth

3. Hybrid unit (Analogue and DVB-T)

Again I don't know. The work in this driver is very recent.

I recommend you have a look at the Linux DVB Wiki - http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

I have 2 versions of the freecom dvb usb stick (not the dvb / analogue one), the orginal and one based on the zl0353 chipset. I'm currently using them with no issues on the latest knopmyth release, and the previous version was also OK.

I had to download and install the dvb drivers to get the newer one to work. Really easy, just unzip, make and make install, provided you have the kernel source to hand.

Only gotcha, is that I needed to download an updated firmware file for the original stick before it would work with the new drivers.

I've got one of these too. I've got all the firmware it needs and the orange light is currently on, but i'm having trouble getting it to actually work. If someone who has got this one working could give me a hand getting it working i'd really appreciate it :)
