Post subject: | Cannot detect second HD5000 |
My myth has an HD5000 and a PVR150 that have been coexisting peacefully. I recently added a second HD5000, but I can't get mythtv-setup to detect it. When I select "DVB DTV Capture Card" and change the DVB Card Number to 1 (My first HD5000 is DVB0), I get the message "Could not open card #1" Is there something else that I need to do first? |

Have you tried another PCI slot? Are you sure your card is good? |

The machine wouldn't boot with the HD5000 in the other slot, but it was ok with the PVR150 being there. |

Sounds to me like a resource conflict. I would take a look at the IRQ's and see if you have any free one's. Otherwise you probably have to disable one of you onboard devices to get it see the card. Usually changing the slot works but sometimes it is a matter of getting it all to work with IRQ sharing... UGH! Good Luck |

So I guess I should go into the BIOS and disable something? |

Well, take a look in BIOS at the IRQ's with the setup before you add the new card. Keep in mind that different devices tend to perfer certain IRQ's and certain resources. Note exactly what the two cards are using. This will give you some insight into the souce of the problem. |

It's generally a good idea to disable anything you're not using in the BIOS. Say parallel ports, possibly game ports, floppy controller if you don't have a floppy drive, ... There are usually about a half dozen unused devices like that which you can knock out. |

Some other thoughts to help the diagnostic process along: 1. "lspci -v" will report quite a bit of information about each device that was recognized, including IRQ assignmnet. Look to see if all of your cards are listed there. 2. "cat /proc/interrupts" will show you exactly which cards are using each IRQ. On my system my digitial tuner and my ethernet port are sharing the same IRQ without problems, but IRQ sharing can cause problems depending on the devices. Marc Code: cat /proc/interrupts [/quote]

Thanks for the tips. I ended up swapping the cards in the their slots and disabling some onboard devices in the BIOS. After a few combinations of things I got it working. |
