Post subject:  Digital Video with Analog Audio?

Hello,

I have no idea whether this is even possible, so the reason for my question. My Comcast cable, as you might expect, only broadcasts the local channels in the clear. The other QAM channels are encrypted. However, it appears that for most of the channels, only the audio is encrypted, the video comes across fine. Also, as you might expect, the QAM video at times is quite a bit better than that of the analog signal.

So, is there some way to have myth use the video from my HD tuner and the audio from my analog tuner (of course also applying any delay correction I define for that particular channel)? I know that doing this would tie up both tuners for a single recording, and I know that this won't necessarily give me the HD signal for the channel. Just wondering if it is even possible.

I think you would have to record both, then setup a script to demux the audio from the analog and mux it into the digital recording. I don't think you could do it in real time. You could use mencoder theoretically. Here is a starting point:
