Post subject: | Panasonic LCD-TV: black screen instead of a recording |
Hello I have just bought a Panasonic LCD-TV (LMD 70F - 32") which of course should get connected with my Mythbox. Well, I tried to connect the mythbox via * VGA * DVI graphic card output to the Panasonic HDMI input * Component Of course, the latter connection is the one I had on my CRT and looks nasty on such a big screen. Currently it's the only way I get a picture, b/c VGA and HDMI do not work. The reason why VGA and HDMI do not work is simple: I changed the modelines as described in numerous ways in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf File, but the result is negative. The frontend works, the preview picture for the recordings works, but I cannot see any of the recordings, i.e. I get a black picture. In addition the whole Mythbox, seems to freeze, I cannot connect via Putty, nor does it response to any keyboard commands. In this case, I have to brutally turn off the Mythbox. What actually surprises me, is the fact that the VGA-output to a PC-Monitor used to work before... Now, is there a simple explaination how to fix this connection problem? |

You can start by supplying detail of your hardware. Also, you haven't mentioned the modeline you use for your CRT. Finally what does your xorg.conf say in the monitor device section? I have a Panasonic 32" LCD (600A) and it works amazingly well with Knoppmyth using the VGA input. Unless you give us some relevant information, it's not possible to help. Mike |

Mike Here's a copy from the monitor device section of my xorg.conf: Code: Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Configured Mouse" Driver "mouse" Option "CorePointer" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Generic Video Card" Driver "vesa" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Generic Monitor" Option "DPMS" HorizSync 30-100 VertRefresh 50-160 EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" Device "Generic Video Card" Monitor "Generic Monitor" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Depth 1 Modes "1920x1440" "1920x1200" "1856x1392" "1792x1344" "1680x1050" "1600 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 4 Modes "1920x1440" "1920x1200" "1856x1392" "1792x1344" "1680x1050" "1600 EndSubSection After tweaking around, I just stayed with the original file. For that reason you will only find default settings. Regarding the Video Card, I have a ASUS 9250 TD. |

Code: Section "Monitor" Identifier "Generic Monitor" Option "DPMS" HorizSync 30-100 VertRefresh 50-160 EndSection The VertRefresh is far too big for a TV. Change it to 50.0 - 75.0 Code: Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen" Device "Generic Video Card" Monitor "Generic Monitor" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Depth 1 Modes "1920x1440" "1920x1200" "1856x1392" "1792x1344" "1680x1050" "1600 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 4 Modes "1920x1440" "1920x1200" "1856x1392" "1792x1344" "1680x1050" "1600 EndSubSection These resolutions are waaay too large for any TV. The Panasonic probably has a maximum resolution of 1366x768 (if it's HD), so changing the line after "Depth 24" to "1024x768 800x600 640x480" will get you going. The ATI cards are something of a new thing with Knoppmyth, support-wise. I've always gone with NVIDIA chipsets as their GPUs are all supported (for XvMC), but the above changes should get you going. Do you get errors in ~mythtv/.xsession-errors? Mike |

Mike Well, I got a hell's load of errors, but don't know exactly what to look for.... In the meanwhile, after many hours of desparation, I would to tell you how I am currently hooking my mythbox to my TV (or at least how it worked with my old CRT-TV) In order to get a Monitor-output, I cd /etc/X11 from there rm xorg.conf ln -s xorg.conf.pre350 xorg.conf In order to get a TV-out from my Hauppauge 350, I cd /etc/X11 from there rm xorg.conf ln -s xorg.conf.350 xorg.conf I can also provide the three involved files, which have been altered in some way to meet the Panasonic's specifications, but not completly: xorg.conf Code: # /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file) # # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using # values from the debconf database. # # Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page. # (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.) # # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only* # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg # package. # # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated # again, run the following command: # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg Section "Files" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/cyrillic" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/cyrillic" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi" # path to defoma fonts FontPath "/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType" EndSection Section "Module" Load "bitmap" Load "dbe" Load "ddc" Load "dri" Load "extmod" Load "freetype" Load "glx" Load "int10" Load "record" Load "type1" Load "v4l" Load "vbe" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Generic Keyboard" Driver "kbd" Option "CoreKeyboard" Option "XkbRules" "xorg" Option "XkbModel" "pc104" Option "XkbLayout" "us" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Configured Mouse" Driver "mouse" Option "CorePointer" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Generic Video Card" Driver "vesa" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Generic Monitor" Option "DPMS" HorizSync 30-100 VertRefresh 50-160 EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" Device "Generic Video Card" Monitor "Generic Monitor" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Depth 1 Modes "1920x1440" "1920x1200" "1856x1392" "1792x1344" "1680x1050" "1600x1200" "1440x900" "1400x1050" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 4 Modes "1920x1440" "1920x1200" "1856x1392" "1792x1344" "1680x1050" "1600x1200" "1440x900" "1400x1050" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 8 Modes "1920x1440" "1920x1200" "1856x1392" "1792x1344" "1680x1050" "1600x1200" "1440x900" "1400x1050" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 15 Modes "1920x1440" "1920x1200" "1856x1392" "1792x1344" "1680x1050" "1600x1200" "1440x900" "1400x1050" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 16 Modes "1920x1440" "1920x1200" "1856x1392" "1792x1344" "1680x1050" "1600x1200" "1440x900" "1400x1050" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1920x1440" "1920x1200" "1856x1392" "1792x1344" "1680x1050" "1600x1200" "1440x900" "1400x1050" EndSubSection EndSection Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Default Layout" Screen "Default Screen" InputDevice "Generic Keyboard" InputDevice "Configured Mouse" EndSection Section "DRI" Mode 0666 EndSection xorg.conf 350 Code: Cannot open master side of pty: No such file or directory (2) xorg.conf.350 [----] 0 L:[ 1+ 0 1/141] *(0 /4540b)= S 83 0x53 Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "XFree86 Configured" Screen 0 "TV Screen" 0 0 InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" # PS/2 Mouse not detected # Serial Mouse not detected InputDevice "USB Mouse" "CorePointer" EndSection Section "ServerFlags" Option "AllowMouseOpenFail" "true" EndSection Section "Files" RgbPath "/usr/share/X11/rgb" ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/Speedo" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/PEX" # Additional fonts: Locale, Gimp, TTF...
