Post subject:  modeline and HDTV

I have a HDTV that can switch between resolutions. Is adjusting the modelines necessary? Will the tv beable to correct it? I'm guessing i'm not that lucky but thought i'd ask.

You have to pick a modeline that your TV can understand. To see what modeline is in effect, look at /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Look for these lines:

Code:
Validated modes:

(see what follows that)

Code:
Setting mode "ATSC-720-60p"

(to see what it's selecting - may be different for GUI vs various video sizes)

Code:
Virtual screen size determined to be 1280 x 720

(See how big it thinks the screen is)

To ensure what mode you are using you need to check the line "Setting Mode", because the virtual screen size might not be equal to your actual screen.
